Do I need to be an ACS member to apply for the award?
No. You do not need to be an ACS member. However, you must create a free ACS ID. The URL link to your ID is a required item in the application. To learn how to register for this free forum and obtain your profile link, please follow the instructions in this document. If you have already registered, please just follow steps 5 and 6. If you'd like more information on how to build your profile, please read this document.
Do I need to be a chemist to be eligible?
No. Anyone who attended one of the original workshops, regardless of his/her scientific discipline is eligible for this award. The different viewpoints that physicists, biologists, computer scientists, architects, and others provide will be invaluable during the Trainer Institute and all are welcomed.

I wasn't able to attend the earlier workshops, can I still apply for the travel award?
No. You must have already attended the workshops from 13 February - 1 March to be eligible.
Can I submit more than one letter of recommendation?
No. Please select only one recommender who you think would best represent you in his/her letter.

What will occur at the Institute: Selected individuals will first receive general training in topics important for a trainer (communicating and listening skills among others). Next, the selected individuals will meet for a few days with the topic experts to review what was presented in February and use that as a basis for designing a new course that could be given upon your return home.
When are the dates of the Institute: Selected participants will travel to Thailand on Sunday, 25 August with a welcoming event that night. Four full days of coursework and discussions will occur from Monday, 26 August through Thursday, 29 August. Departures home will occur on Friday, 30 August.
What will the award cover: Participants will receive roundtrip airfare, 5 nights of lodging, and meals. Additional costs beyond those will generally not be covered by the award.
Who will be selected: Up to 4 qualified individuals from each of the 8 workshops (Jakarta, Makassar, Balikpapan, Surabaya, Medan, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Skudai) will be selected. Each individual will be become a trainer in only one of the 4 topics (publishing, proposal development, career paths, and communicating). Applicants are therefore asked to carefully consider which topic(s) they would like to choose. Each city will have only one trainer per topic. For example, in Balikpapan, only 1 person will be selected to cover publishing.
