The Colorado Local Section, along with the University of Northern Colorado Student Affiliate Chapter, hosted the 6th annual National Chemistry Week Celebration at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Activities began at 10:00AM and continued until 3:00PM. During the day, there were 2,790 visitors to the museum, including 600 students, teachers, and chaperones. Each of them had to walk by the demonstration table as they entered the museum. One of the volunteers was able to converse with the children in Spanish, as needed. Our liaison to the museum commented on how the children's faces lit up and began bombarding our volunteer with questions in Spanish once they realized they could communicate with him. The event was publicized on the museum's website for two weeks prior to the event. An entire page was devoted to the upcoming demonstrations and photos from previous National Chemistry Week celebrations held by the local section and the student affiliate were included. In the end, about 550 cups of silly putty were made, discussions on temperature and volume relationships were had, and much was learned by all involved.
