  The synthesis and spectroscopic and electrochem. characteristics,   including luminescence behavior and aggregation-induced emission   (AIE) behavior, of a series of 1,1-substituted siloles and   germoles will be described.  Parameters reported will   include soln.-phase  absorption and emission   characteristics, luminescence quantum yields,  excited state   lifetimes, and AIE characteristics, as well as oxidn. and    redn. potentials.  The behavior of the compds. will be   compared to those  of 1,1-dimethyl-2,3,4,5-tetraphenylsilole   and 1,1-dimethyl-2,3,4,5-tetraphenylgermole.
