      Abstract: Substituted m-terphenyl   2,4,6-triphenylbromobenzene reacted with two equiv. of   n-butyllithium in ether/hexane soln., generating dilithiated   species (I). Treatment of I with dialkylcarbodiimides (RN:C:NR, R   = i-Pr, cyclohexyl) followed by aq. work-up of the reaction mixt.   resulted in formation of sterically-hindered bifunctional   amidines (II) (R = i-Pr, R = cyclohexyl). Compd. II (R =   cyclohexyl) was treated with HCl, yielding protonated bisamidine   chloride (III) (R = cyclohexyl). Bisamidine derivs. II (R = i-Pr)   and III were characterized by x-ray crystallog. Compd. II (R =   i-Pr) reacted with trimethylaluminum yielding a novel   bis(dimethyl)aluminum bisamidinate complex, on which   semi-empirical calcns.
