Joint Authorship of a Paper

    Two faculty members need to publish so as to gain tenure.  One of them takes a paper on some work he had done earlier but never published, and asks the other to help with its revision.  Even though the contribution of the second member is minimal, he is listed as co-author on the paper so as to aid his tenure chances.
