  Abstract: We have recently investigated the   reaction chem. of diimines with various aluminum and gallium   alkyl/halo complexes. Depending on the nature of the substituents   on the diimine or the starting Ga/Al compd. we observe very   different reaction products, varying from simple adducts of the   diimine with the Group 13 compds., to unique products in which   the diimine inserts into the Ga/Al complex forming cyclic   species, or to ionic species contg. Group 13 cations.   Interestingly, we have discovered a remarkable system using   Me2GaCl and RN=CHCH=NR (R = 2,6-di-isopropylphenyl) that   generates single crystals that are multichromic in nature within   the same single crystal. The identical crystal structure is   obtained regardless of the color of the crystal sections. Lastly,   we have found that an excess of Me2GaCl produces a complex in   which the Me group originating from the starting Me2GaCl is   activated by formal loss of hydrogen and converted into a -CH2-   fragment.
