  Abstract: Gaseous CO2 is a relatively "useless"   chem. that contributes to global warming as a greenhouse gas.   Efforts are underway to search for opportunities to use CO2 as a   C1 synthon in the prepn. of org. mols. During our time   investigating CO2 chem., we have continued to be surprised at the   interesting reaction chem. this mol. exhibits. This talk will   focus on the fundamental reaction chem. of CO2 with main group   amide compds. We have synthesized and structurally characterized   a large variety of new main group (bis)amides of Groups 2, 12,   and 14. Insertion reactions of these main group compds. with CO2   and the related mols. CS2 and COS will be covered, and the   differences in reaction chem. of these small mols. towards main   group amides will be discussed. Activation of CO2 to form new   ligands, and attempts to "chem." sequester CO2 in the form of   adducts, will also be shown. [on SciFinder(R)]
