  Abstract: Amphiphilic pseudo block copolymer   systems can be designed with photoconductors (as applicable to   optoelectronics) as part of a rod-coil copolymer. The di-block   and triblock copolymers with perylenebisimide and Jeffamine   enable the aggregation of the chromophores in aq. media. the mode   of aggregation is dilTerent between MJ-PTCDI and DJ-PTCDI, and   the extent of aggregation can be modified by solvent mixts. Aging   of the solns. leads to predominantly one-dimensional coalescence   into fibers. with PTCD1 substituted on both sides with   polystyrene, PS-PTCDI-PS does not show self assembly of the   perylene segment in any of the solvents that dissolve   polystyrene. We attribute this behavior to the C-H interaction   between the Ph groups of the polystyrene segment and PTCDI, when   the polystyrene segment is in an extended conformation (good   solvent). Collapsing the polystyrene segment by adding a   non-solvent (water or methanol) eliminates the C-H interaction   and enables the stacking of PTCDI segment in neighboring mols.   These rod-coil systems would also be a route to prepn. of polymer   dispersed aggregate photoconductors.
