in today's The New York Times (03/15/11) Physicist's jailing is veiled in Mistery. Adlene Hicheur a French-Algerian high energy physicist working at CERN was arrested in France on October 8, 2009. A few extract from the article:

Somebody who is in prison without a charge, this is against all international law.

Under French law,.. a person can be held in "provisional detension" for up to 4 years.

Dr. Jean-Perre Lees at Laboratory of Particle Physics in Annecy-le-Vieux, France has organized an international support committee.

Nearly 100 scientists, including J. Steinberger of CERN, winner of a Nobel Prize in Physics, signed a letter to N. Sarkozy in December
