  Abstract: The synthesis of   (E)-((6-(((3-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzylidene)amino)methyl)-N-oxide-pyridin-2-yl)me thyl)diphenylphosphine   oxide and its unexpected transformation during efforts to study   the coordination chem. with Pr(NO3)3·6H2O are described. The mol.   structure of the praseodymium complex was detd. by x-ray   crystallog. The ligand has undergone significant rearrangement,   forming an isoindoline ring at its central core, which is not   obsd. to occur in the absence of the Pr(III) ion. Two mols. of   the rearranged ligand coordinate to the Pr(III). One of the mols.   contains a neutral isoindoline ring at its central core, while   the 2nd has an anionic isoindoline ring.
