Festival de Quimica at the IUPAC World Chemistry Congress, Puerto Rico

As part of the activities of the 43rd IUPAC World Chemistry Congress, the ACS Puerto Rico Local Section hosted a community outreach event, Festival de Quimica, on Sunday July 31, 2011 from 1:00-4:30 p.m. at Paseo de la Princesa; this event joined the efforts of hundreds of volunteers who, through various demonstrations, emphasized the importance of chemistry in daily life in relation to the International Year of Chemistry (IYC) 2011 themes of water, environment, energy, materials, and health.  During the event, participants joined thousands of students around the world by participating in the IYC 2011 Global Water Experiment.  The festival also included the participation of the ACS President-Elect, Dr. Bassam Shakhashiri, ACS members and staff, members of the ACS Puerto Rico Local Section, ACS Puerto Rico Younger Chemist Committee, ACS Student Member Chapters from public and private institutions, University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras Graduate Students Association, and ACS Chemistry High School Clubs.
