  Abstract:

      The presently disclosed and/or claimed inventive concept(s)  relates generally to lignin nanoparticle dispersions. More particularly, but not by  way of limitation, the presently disclosed and/or claimed  inventive concept(s) relates, in one non-limiting embodiment, to  a mild process of preparing lignin nanoparticle  dispersions. The  presently disclosed and/or claimed inventive concept(s) also  relates generally to the compositions and methods of making  lignin nanoparticle derivatives and dispersions of the  same. Additionally,  the presently disclosed and/or claimed inventive concept(s)  relates generally to the compositions and methods of making  lignin nanoparticle—polymer complexes comprising the derivatized  and/or non-derivatized lignin nanoparticle dispersions and  polymers. Further, the presently disclosed and/or claimed  inventive concept(s) relates generally to a method of using at  least one of the lignin nanoparticle dispersions, derivatized  lignin nanoparticle dispersions, and/or the lignin  nanoparticle—polymer complex to deposit lignin nanoparticles and  to impart rinse-resistant properties, such as hydrophilic  properties, to substrates, or function as tunable nanoparticle  surfactants in a wide variety of industrial  applications.
