Because of the potential for profit from their research, many investigators are unwilling to share data.  Officials at your university have suggested you check with the intellectual property officer before sharing data with investigators at other institutions.  You enjoy the exchange of ideas; it is why you are at a university instead of working in industry.  What, if anything, can you do?
