Technician of the Year
The Northern Oklahoma Section of the ACS recognizes excellence in chemical technicians within the section by administering the NOK-ACS TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD. Awards are presented to three chemical technicians in the Northern Oklahoma area who have demonstrated a high degree of professionalism as a chemical technician. Criteria include technical skill, safety and housekeeping, relationship with co-workers, reliability, communication skills, contribution to team efforts, and additional professional activities.
All technicians, as defined by the ACS, with a minimum of five years experience, are eligible for nomination. Membership in the ACS or Committee on Technician Affairs is not required. The ACS defines a technician as a person whose training includes successful completion of a two-year post-high school level science curriculum leading to an Associate's degree, the equivalent course work in a Baccalaureate program, or the equivalent knowledge gained by experience. The primary work of a technician is to conduct experiments, correlate information to help solve problems, and to discover new knowledge.
Traditionally, three winners are chosen each year, with one selected as Overall Technician of the Year.
