Blog Post created by Vivian McNeill on May 31, 2017

ACS, founded in 1876, holds a Congressional Charter and is the largest scientific organization in the nation.  As such, the Society has long been a leader at the interface of science and public policy. From the ACS position statement on Scientific Integrity in Public Policy: "The American Chemical Society (ACS) strongly supports the use of insightful, comprehensive, scientific and engineering input to the development and evaluation of policy options. ACS also encourages scientific integrity policies that help the federal government obtain and integrate scientific assessments into policy development and implementation."

In brief, ACS:

  • Supports the use of insightful, comprehensive, scientific and engineering input to the development and evaluation of policy options.
  • Encourages scientific integrity policies that help the federal government obtain and integrate scientific assessments into policy development and implementation
