The U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad is proud to announce the finalists who will represent the U.S. at the 47th International Chemistry Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan, July 20-29, 2015.


The members of the U.S. Team Alpha Theta are:

Soorajnath Boominathan of Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, OK, Oklahoma Local Section;       

Bryce Cai of Barrington High School, IL, Chicago Local Section;

Janice Ong of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, VA, Chemical Society of Washington; and

David Wang of Monta Vista High School, CA, Santa Clara Valley Local Section  



1st alternate: Rueih-Sheng Fu, Arcadia High School, CA, Southern California Local Section

2nd alternate: Richard Wang, North Hollywood High School, CA, Southern California Local Section


The Team U.S. will travel to Azerbaijan accompanied by mentors:

  1. Dr. Kelli Slunt, University of Mary Washington, VA, Head Mentor
  2. Dr. Michael Danahy, Bowdoin College, ME, College Mentor
  3. Dr. Patrick Chan, Benjamin N. Cardozo High School, NY, High School Mentor

Share your enthusiasm for chemistry with a teacher as an ACS Science Coach. As a year-long science coach, you will help students love science in a variety of roles such as presenting demonstrations, helping in the lab, or answering content questions. ACS donates $500 to each school participating in the Science Coaches program. Rolling admission is now open. Find out more at
