San Diego section will host a table to show water filtration at the 25th annual EarthFair in Balboa Park on Sunday April 27th.  This will be our 8th year participating in the event.  The event attracts tens of thousands from the San Diego community, a great venue to reach many in the public to share chemistry.  Members of the local San Diego section and Give Clean Water organization will show a water filter used in third world countries.  We will distribute our Celebrating Chemistry booklet and describe properties of our valuable resource.

The Southwest Georgia Section sponsored a CCED Illustrated Poem Contest with the topic "The Wonders of Water". More than 100 entries were received from several of our counties. A winner and an honorary mention for each of the four categories were selected and prizes will be given this Saturday April 19, while at the Earth Day celebration at Drexel Park, Valdosta, GA. An informational table will be set at this event with Celebrating Chemistry newsletters and hands-on-activities related to the properties of water, including an Egg Hunt for the Elements!

Nashville Section began today with Chemistry Day at Tennessee State University.  Students from middle and high school joined the students at TSU for poster sessions, earth day activities, chemistry games, and featured speakers.  Students got to take home copies of Chemist Celebrate Earth Day and a box was given to each school to use in their water unit coming up in a few weeks. Saturday we will be chairing the volunteers to participate in Nashville Earth Day.  To learn more about the festival and to volunteer go to www.nashvilleearthday.org Next week we will be visiting middle and high schools, hosting industry events, and student chapter will be celebrating on their campus with a variety of activities.  Our goal is to reach more than 20,000 people with Chemist Celebrate Earth Day.
