My PhD work involved researching new methodology towards a novel palladium-catalzed decarboxylative allylation of diphenylglycinates. The project brought together two rich fields, the alpha-imino anion(2-azaallyl anion) and allyl palladium chemistry, by creating a mild and facile method of easily generating the alpha-imino anion through a palladium-catalyzed deallylation and allylation protocol. To this extent we have successfully generated various homoallylic amines and successfully intercepted the putative alpha-imino anion intermediate with arylidenemalononitriles.
Currently my work in the Melander lab has involved natural product synthesis and the synthesis of 2-aminoimidazole analogs towards the re-sensitization of MRSA to beta-lactam containing antibiotics.
