We have an interest in palladium-catalyzed oxidative reactions which is focused on a general vision also called "consanguinity". A parent process, based on Pd(II) catalysts, nucleophiles, alkenes and oxidants, generates child processes under specific experimental conditions. Among, these child processes, some have led to applications, such as the Wacker reaction, while others raise questions and fundamentals problems. The work focuses on the study of the similarities and differences of these child processes, to produce knowledge, fundamentals, and applications in the functionnalization of C-H bonds.
We use electrospray ionization mass, and tandem mass spectrometry ESI/MS(/MS), a fast, sensitive and selective technique which provides continuous "snapshots" of the ionic composition of the reaction medium, for the investigation of the mechanisms of the child processes and new transformations.
We are also working on the use of cheap metals (Cu, Fe, ) for oxidations and C-H bond transformations, the nucleophilic substitution of C-OR bonds, and the use of water as solvent and reaction medium.
