On Friday the 27th of October, the Rutgers Chemistry Society celebrated national chemistry week with an information table on the chemistry of rocks and minerals, going along with the theme of the week, "Chemistry Rocks." We gave away free pens and stress relievers courtesy of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, and displayed crystal structure models of halite and olivine courtesy of Dr. Herzberg and the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
The event was a success, raising awareness of a relatively low-publicity field of chemistry, and creating interest in our organization, the ACS student chapter. The Rutgers Chemistry Society intends to plan additional tabling events like this one in the future. Many thanks to the two departments that helped us make this happen!
