Started career as an environmental analytical radiochemist in 1974. Worked in nuclear regulation, nuclear emergency response, and earned an MPA in Public Health in 1985. I continued in nuclear regulation, energy public policy analysis and energy facility siting, retiring from career one in 2005, as the asst. Dir. of the Oregon Dept. of Energy. I earned an MAT in secondary science education in 2008.
I had served as the Oregon Governor's liaison to the NRC for 16 years, Oregon's representative to the NW Low Level Rad Waste Compact for 20 years and the Technical Advisor to the Governor in the case of a nuclear incident in or affecting Oregon for 16 years.
I have been a member of Oregon State University's Nuclear Engineering/Health Physics Advisory Committee since 1983.
My MAT research was on the use of poetry to engage students with an artistic view of the world in teaching chemistry.
