Research and Special Interests:
My research interests center on the use of de novo protein design to elucidate the fundamental engineering principles of metallobiochemistry. I design minimal peptide and protein structures that incorporate metal-ions as model complexes for natural metalloproteins involved in cancer and cardiovascular disease. My approach is to delineate the metal-ion binding thermodynamics to improve the accuracy of metalloprotein design as well as to elucidate key structure-function relationships in natural metalloproteins such as zinc finger transcription factors and heme proteins.
