A “greener” alternative to the Friedel-Crafts acylation provided a very clean method of producing Lumefantrine. This work has implications for the commercial production of Lumefantrine for the treatment of malaria in less developed countries. Each compound was characterized and analyzed with Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Infrared Spectroscopy, and Mass Spectroscopy/ Gas Chromatography, to determine the acetyl group.
