In an annual chemistry community recognition, the ACS journals Inorganic Chemistry, Journal of Organic Chemistry, Organometallics, and Organic Letters have each announced the 2018 recipients of their lectureship awards. Lee Cronin of the University of Glasgow is the Inorganic Chemistry recipient for his group’s work on the self-assembly of protein-sized polyoxometalate molecules (metal-oxide clusters) and their electronic properties and applications. Masayuki Inoue of the University of Tokyo is the Journal of Organic Chemistry recipient for his group's paper on the total synthesis of a MRSA-blasting macrocyclic peptide natural product. Tianning Diao of New York University is the Organometallics recipient for her group's work "Structural Characterization of β-Agostic Bonds in Pd-Catalyzed Polymerization." And Tehshik Yoon of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, is the Organic Letters recipient for his group's new synthetic tactic to access both Diels-Alder and [2+2]-cycloadducts from vinyl sulfides exploiting visible-light-photoredox catalysts. Collectively, these lectureship awards highlight some of the most important and interesting organic and inorganic chemistry published during 2017. Please check them out and share.
