I have been a member of the ACS since 1984. During that time, I was a member of group of scientists assembled in the mid-80's to encourage, motivate and inspire the next generation in becoming chemists by bringing chemistry into the classroom. In collaboration with UCSD, we were provided a laboratory to conduct a number of experiments that demonstrated simple chemical principles in fascinating and unique ways. When I left for graduate school in the late-80s, we had developed programs for elementary, junior high and high school level students and begun giving chemistry presentations to schools in the San Diego area. What a great experience!
