Research and Special Interests: I completed my PhD work in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Lehigh University September 2009. My project centered around a small protein called stathmin (Stmn1). Stmn1 is over-expressed in most cancers and its level of excess expression has been correlated with cancer stage progression. My work focused on how stmn1 functions in normal versus cancerous cells, and why loss of stmn1 in cancer can result in apoptosis while genetic knock out of stmn1 in mouse cells is not deleterious. My post-doctoral work will focus on integrating work and knowledge of stathmin with a pH selective membrane integrating protein, referred to as pHLIP, to specifically target cancer cells. I will also explore how pHLIP may be useful in alternative applications.
Area of Expertise: I am currently a post-doc after having worked in industry for 7.5 years. My expertise includes cell biology and biochemical assay techniques, working with various cell lines, etc. My industry experience includes HAZMAT Technician, Quality Assurance and Quality Control, and various transportation regulations as they pertain to packaging and labeling of chemical materials.
Years of Expertise: 11-15
