Research and Special Interests: Ivan Stefanov is one of the top ten 2005 MERCK/AAAS Science Research Program Scholars. He receives the 2005 National Society of Collegiate Scholars and 2005 Golden Key International Honor Society awards. He earns his Biochemistry degree from Kennesaw State University in Atlanta,GA and in the fall of 2007 continues further with a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry at Georgia State University, working on the development of microchip/microarray method for anthrax and other bio-pathogens detection. In the Spring of 2008 he accepts an overseas offer from Gent University, Belgium, one of the top 120 universities in the world, to continue his PhD education in an industry related project. He has worked for numerous national and international companies, university chemistry and biochemistry teaching assistant, as well as a US government position at a state lab in Cherokee County, Atlanta,GA. In 2004-2006 Ivan participates as Affiliates of American Chemical Society(SAACS) National Member and a local chapter Technology Officer. He is a Phi Lambda Epsilon (PLU) Honorary Chemical Society Member and Sigma Xi the Scientific Research Society Associate Member. He has numerous other awards, such as 2000 Who"s Who among America"s brightest Students and 2006 Teaching Assistant of the Year Award. Interested in the development of novel aptamer based nanosensors for biodetection, novel metal assisted phospholipid hydrolysis methods, novel biomaterials, including natural enamel polymerization, new water pollution detection methods and more. Enjoys repair of cars and computers (laptops) in spare time, web design and is owner of more than 20 web domains. Has a degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering technology from Chattahoochee State College in 2001 . Active tennis player, ALTA (Atlanta Tennis Lawn Association) and United States Tennis Association (USTA) member.
