ACS Activities: Fall 2009 National Meeting, Co-Organizer and On-Site Coordinator, Cafe Chemistry. The goal of Cafe Chemistry was to enable members of all levels to network with one another and other ACS members who were from all walks of chemical life. Some networking coaches were ACS employees, government employees, lobbyists for science issues, industry workers, and more. Please contact me if you would be interested in having a Cafe Chemistry networking session at your local meeting or university., American Chemical Society, Central PA Section Chair, Government Action Committee (GAC), January 2006 -; Present Determined need for government awareness relative to science issues Communicated interests of constituents to ACS and government representatives

Career Stage: Professional
Research and Special Interests: I want to continue developing my research portfolio in the area of geochemical modeling of anthropogenic environmental problems. My graduate research focused on molecular-scale descriptions of aqueous geochemical reactions, and my post-doctoral research employs atomistic simulations to describe the aqueous-hectorite interface. My research to date is atomistic in nature, and I would like to develop my expertise in the structure, energetics, dynamics, and reactivity of aqueous-mineral interfaces as well as learn about large-scale phenomena in multi-disciplinary and collaborative atmospheres. I am currently pursuing opportunities that enable me to do so. In addition to my research interests, I would like to further develop my project management skills as well as learn more about research as a business infrastructure. I have experience at the national, regional, and university levels brainstorming, initiating, and supervising a conference exposition booth, advocating science policy agendas, conference organization, and a computational user group, respectively. I won the Achieving Woman Award as a graduate student, one of Penn State’s highest honors for a professional woman within the community. I have served as a reviewer of publications whose topics include physical chemistry, geology, and materials science, and I have met funding-agency requirements for progress reporting for the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Energy (DOE), and Department of Defense (DOD). My qualifications and professional experience equip me to bring a blend of science knowledge, time management, diplomacy, and teamwork to my next position. Additionally, I would be an asset because I am enthusiastic, conscientious, and detail-oriented. I have exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, which I have demonstrated in academic, government, conference, and committee-based environments.
