As Executive Director and CEO of the American Chemical Society, I am constantly interested in what members think, what they believe the value of ACS membership is, and what they want from their professional Society. 2008 was a year of great accomplishments for the Society but also a year of great challenge. As we moved into 2009, ACS faced the same challenges faced by other organizations. While ACS ended 2009 with new programs and financially strong, the world markets are still volatile, and layoffs continue in our industry. Academic institutions are stressed.
