Research and Special Interests:
My research projects include:
1. Built a capillary HPLC system, developed and validated an efficient separation method for analyzing various bio-active compounds, e.g., small peptides.
2. Developed an electroanalytical method for sensitive and selective detection following HPLC, including fabrication of a carbon fiber composite ring-;disk electrode and a novel microfluidic flow cell using various thin-film techniques.
3. Submitted a proposal on developing a new type of HPLC column-;the gold monolithic column and investigating its application to the analysis of drug candidates.
I have also worked in the mass spectrometry facility at University of Pittsburgh as a teaching fellow. My responsibilities included operating state-of-the-arts mass spectrometers (Waters/Micromass AutoSpec EI, Waters LC/Q-Tof ESI) to perform and interpret analyses, maintaining the facility to ensure optimal equipment operation, and providing training and trouble-shooting for open-access users of LC-MS and GC-MS (Agilent 1100 series LC/MSD, Agilent 5971A and 5970B GC/MS).
Area of Expertise:
Liquid chromatography(the instrumentation and method development), mass spectrometry (EI, ESI, MALDI) for identification and exact mass analysis of small molecules, electrochemistry (electroanalytical techniques and devices), micro/nano-scale thin film fabrication and characterization instrumentation, microscopy (optical, SEM, AFM, STM) and spectroscopy/spectrometry (UV/Vis, IR, XPS).
