Family Math and Science Night at Thornton Junior High School

Science Chair Jess Norling invited us back for another fabulous Family Math and Science Night at Thornton JHS in Fremont, CA, on Wednesday, October 7th, 2015.  Veteran presenters Bryan Balazs (LLNL) and Kent Campbell (Diablo Valley College) answered the call, along with Dr. Aparna Mukherjee of CSU EastBay and Dr. Iyun Lazik of San Jose City College.  Dr. Mukherjee and her students presented the NCW 2015 theme activity, "Color Changing Liquids," while Dr. Lazik and her students helped us serve colorful blueberry liquid nitrogen ice cream -- natural purple, lemon pink, or baking soda blue.  At least 1000 members of the Thornton community turned out for this event, which featured 20 hands-on activities.  Our volunteers had a blast, and, as the photos show, colorful signs thanked the American Chemical Society at every turn.  THANK YOU, Jess and Thornton JHS!
