O-Xylene Question

We use O-Xylene for Swell Ratio testing. The O-Xylene is heated to 120 Deg C and Crosslinked UHMWPE is soaked in it to check for degree of crosslinking. After 24 hours the O-Xylene is discarded. We go through a significant amount of Xylene and I want to recycle the Xylene.

My question is: is recycled O-Xylene the same O-Xylene before and after recycling? I need to know this in order for our QA dept to sign off on buying a recycling unit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated; let me know if you have questions.

Thanks in advance

Brian

Re: O-Xylene Question

You should have no problems recycling o-xylene.  o-Xylene can oxidize in air but takes some rather extreme conditions to do this.  I am not sure what your "recycling unit:" does but suggest you distil the o-xylene.

Thanks for the reply; the recycler does distill the Xylene.
