Plastisol polymerization

I work in a print shop where we use plastisol ink for T-shirts. it’s messy, and gets all over everything, especially the pails we keep it in. Normally, the smears on the outside of the pail remain in the same state indefinitely, except for the ink that gets stuck inside the groove where the lid meets the lip of the pail. in that one spot, it seems to harden and we can’t figure out why. There’s no gasket, ambient temperature is stable around room temperature and gets nowhere near hot enough to cure the ink. What factors could contribute to this phenomenon?
