A question about aqueous solutions. The majority of preparations for Thymol Blue indicator use 0.01 M NaOH in the solution. Processes in my lab are sensitive to Na ions, so we avoid sodium containing compounds. Therefore I am desiring to make the solution with KOH. The properties of the two compounds are very similar. What is the driving force for choosing NaOH in the solution? What are the reasons to not use KOH?
(I am also aware of a alcohol based indicator too...)
