Preparation of 1% Furfural Solution

Hi, I would like to check on the meaning of "reagent-grade ethyl alcohol" which is used in the preparation of the Furfural Solution 1% in the Ethyl Alcohol monograph.

Does anyone know what this "reagent-grade ethyl alcohol" is equivalent to?

1. Reagent Alcohol

2. Ethanol (96%)

3. Ethanol, Absolute

Thanks in advance!

In the context of preparing a 1% Furfural solution, "reagent-grade ethyl alcohol" generally refers to high-purity ethanol used in laboratory applications. The most accurate equivalent would typically be:

**3. Ethanol, Absolute**

This is because reagent-grade or absolute ethanol is used to ensure there are no contaminants or impurities that could interfere with the preparation or the accuracy of your solution. Reagent Alcohol and 96% Ethanol might contain impurities or additional substances that can affect your results. Always check specific guidelines or standards for your preparation to confirm.
