Version 3
Division of Business Development & Management focuses on the business of chemistry, rather than a discipline of chemistry. We focus on topics such as sales & marketing, financing, product development, employee relations, quality systems, public relations, plant management, distribution, and so on. We work closely with other business minded ACS entities like Corporation Associates, Small Chemical Business Division and Industrial Engineering & Chemistry Division. We develop programming and promote issues in these areas at the national, regional, and local section levels.
Version 4
Division of Business Development & Management focuses on the business of chemistry. We differentiate us from other divisions by focusing on organizing programs in areas such as, sales & marketing, finance (is it true?), product development, employee relations, quality systems, public relations, plant management, safety and distribution in order to strengthening the overall business of chemistry. We support programs Our strategy is to collaborate with for committees in the ACS such as Corporation Associates, International Activities and Committee on Science (is it true?), and in addition to supporting the activities of Regional Meetings and Local Sections, where there is a synergy. We work with others in the Society to develop programming and promote issues in these areas. It is redundant.
Version 5 (we need a hook!!)
The Division of Business Development & Management focuses on the business of chemistry. We differentiate ourselves from other ACS divisions by focusing on organizing programs in areas such as sales & marketing, finance, product development, employee relations, quality systems, public relations, plant management and distribution to strengthen the overall business of chemistry. Our strategy is to collaborate with ACS committees such as Corporate Associates, International Activities and the Committee on Science to deliver programs at National, Regional, and Local Section meetings. Bottom line is that we are always eager to work with others in the Society to develop programming and promote issues related to chemistry and WE MEAN BUSINESS.
Version 6 (The above work nicely as Positioning statements. - my take on elevator speeches is they need to be more conversational and able to be said in the 30 seconds before the door closes! ) So in response to the Q what or who is BMGT? - perhaps something like this: BMGT is about the business of chemistry. We focus on the essentials that actualize chemistry’s solutions - like management, safety, regulations, sales and marketing - everything outside the laboratory that develops and produces products that improve our lives and make the world better.
Thomas' response:
I really like this. Great job, Carol. It summarizes all the versions nicely. However we don’t want to exclude lab completely as some of us develop products/chemicals in the lab.
Hence my suggestion is to change the last sentence to “everything inside and outside the laboratory that develops and produces products that improve our lives and make the world better.”
