San Diego had a celebration of earthday on Sunday April 18th in Balboa park organized by San Diego Earthworks. This 20th anniversary event was attended by tens of thousands. Produced by 400 volunteers, EarthFair features more than 350 exhibitors, special theme areas, a Food Pavilion, a special Kids’ Activity Area, three entertainment venues, the Children’s Earth Parade, the eARTh Gallery art show, and the Cleaner Car Concourse.
The San Diego ACS section joined this event for the 3rd year. We displayed a table with the hands on cabbage experiment in the childrens area of this day long event. Many children and parents came to our table and hundreds of Chemists Celebrate Earth Day pamplets were given to our San Diego " budding scientists". Three volunteers of the San Diego ACS section worked at this table: Joanna Pool, Desiree Grubisha and Julann Miller.
