The ACS Chemistry-Based Technology Student Award recognizes chemistry-based technology students who exhibit outstanding academic performance. Administered by the ACS Committee on Technician Affairs, the award honors the hard work and accomplishments of students preparing to become applied chemical professionals.
To be eligible for the award, students must meet the following criteria:
Be enrolled in a chemistry-based technology program
Must have completed 75% of the program coursework by the time the award is presented
Demonstrate a high level of integrity and reliability
Demonstrate exceptional performance in laboratory work, including safety, searching for literature, equipment setup and operation, experimental setup and design, interpreting results, teamwork and problem solving
Have strong oral and written communication skills
Demonstrate superior academic performance across all courses (consistently in the upper 25% of most classes)
The nomination and selection process is determined and administered entirely by individual institutions and is carried out as follows:
Institutions form an awards committee composed of chemical technology faculty and at least one faculty member from outside the chemical technology department.
The committee solicits or collects nominations, then evaluates students based on the eligibility requirements (described above).
The award committee selects one or more winner(s) and notifies ACS of the selection(s) using the attached Institution Report Form. The institution must request any certificates from ACS at least four weeks prior to the date when the award will be presented. Presentation of the award is at the discretion of the institution
