I have a background in Medical Technology (about 3 years) and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (about 25 years); and, I have always been interested in the forensic side of laboratory science. Therefore, I would like find out if a person needs to go through a college forensic chemistry program to get into this field. Any advice would be most appreciated.
Definitely not. You will need a bachelors degree of some kind in the sciences. See the discussion on whether advanced degrees are necessary for more info.
It sounds as if you are well qualified.
In the research I've done on this subject it is not necessary. However, a 4 year degree in one of the basic sciences is required (chemistry, biology, etc.). There are forensics programs, which would likely help in obtaining a job, but most only require a bachelor's degree in a science field. Most of the forensics jobs are in a field relating to biology, if that helps.
