Employers across the public and private sectors are increasingly seeking scientists who specialize in creative ideas to maximize the sustainability of both products and practices. At GW's unique green-environmental chemistry program, students learn the science underlying today’s environmental challenges and develop innovative, greener, and more sustainable solutions to address them. The curriculum builds proficiency in both environmental chemistry and green chemistry, positioning graduates to find employment in the broader sustainability field. Our coursework features an intensive study of environmental fate, chemical toxicology, computational modeling, green industrial chemistry, and rational design of safer chemicals with related courses in public health, policy, and business management. Students round off the program with a final capstone project with an external partner, working on real-world challenges that require interdisciplinary thinking to identify solutions acceptable to multiple stakeholders.
