The third edition of Laboratory Safety for Chemistry Students, authored by Robert H. Hill, Jr. and David C. Finster, was generously donated to the ACS and will be published as a free-of-charge e-book through the ACS Institute in Spring 2024. The e-book will provide knowledge and models of best practices needed by students to work safely and sustainably in the laboratory as they progress through four years of undergraduate laboratory work utilizing the RAMP risk management framework: Recognize hazards, Assess the risks from hazards, Minimize risks, and Prepare for the unexpected and emergencies.
Laboratory Safety for Chemistry Students aligns with the revised safety instruction requirements from the ACS Guidelines for Bachelor’s Degree Programs—established by the ACS Committee on Professional Training (CPT) to approve bachelor’s degree programs in chemistry—and provides a systematic approach to integrating chemical safety and sustainability principles into the curriculum.
