Re: GREEN CHEMISTRY–A –THON (GCAT)

We should work on finding shorter synthetic methods and generating less unwanted products that will eventually become waste. As the first principle of Green Chemistry states, it is better to prevent waste than to clean it up after it is formed.

Re: GREEN CHEMISTRY–A –THON (GCAT)

It is important to think about the materials used, but it is just as imperative to create new analytical methodologies that allow real-time and in-process monitoring and control of the reactions at hand prior to the formation of hazardous substances. (principle #1: Prevention)

Re: GREEN CHEMISTRY–A –THON (GCAT)

We must keep in mind a very important word, prevention, in this way will avoid damage to the mother earth as if to prevent the production of toxic and harmful will not have to clean them.

Re: GREEN CHEMISTRY–A –THON (GCAT)

I think one of the most important steps in making our world greener and healthier is to let people know what Green Chemistry actually is and how important it is to maintain the environment and take care of the resources it provides to us. With the right amount of information people can be aware of the initiative and support it.

Re: GREEN CHEMISTRY–A –THON (GCAT)

Spreading the word about the principles of Green Chemistry around the world is important, to let the people know, but it should be also important to reinforce these principles amongst the greater chemical industries that use the majority of hazardous substances to produce most of the things we use on a daily basis. It is them who hold the greater power to make our world a greener place.

Re: GREEN CHEMISTRY–A –THON (GCAT)

The processes used in a daily basis, like the purification of water for example, should be revised to use less toxic chemicals and produce less hazardous waste. These procedures are fundamental for the sustainment of human life so, therefore, should become greener. The actual methods can take place if we are sure that they do not harm the environment in any way and that all harmful toxics are removed.

Re: GREEN CHEMISTRY–A –THON (GCAT)

During most chemical processes, we always use solvents that are cheaper and can be used with almost anything and with any conditions, but we don't think about the waste the use of these solvents produce; in some cases it is greater than the product itself. This is why the use of selective catalytic reagents is a greener way to go even though the  cost-effectiveness factor is still a problem.

Prevention, prevention of garbage is the best relief that we can give to mother Earth.

Re: GREEN CHEMISTRY–A –THON (GCAT)

I think that the reduction of the economic impact is being considered with more importance than the reduction of the ecological impact of the synthetic and chemical methods used today. Protecting the environment should be the main focus of the industry, considering the critical condition the earth is in. I don’t imagine our world managing any more waste. The economic aspect should be put aside for just a moment and we should concentrate on becoming as eco-friendly as possible, chemically speaking, as promptly as possible. It is important, although not easy, to make the chemical industry as green as we can.

Re: GREEN CHEMISTRY–A –THON (GCAT)

Another way to implement these principles to every day life is to create laws that favor the monitoring of the production and sales of hazardous materials that industries provide to universities and research labs so people are forced to act greener even if it's by law inforcement. By doing so the only materials used in any type of education will be those that go according to green chemistry.
