Applications for the 2013 IUPAC Young Observer Program are now being accepted.
The U.S. National Committee for the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) organizes a "Young Observer" program for the IUPAC General Assembly, held every two years. Established in 1977 to foster interactions with internationally acclaimed scientists in various fields, the IUPAC Young Observer Program strives to introduce the work of IUPAC to a new generation of distinguished researchers and to provide them with an opportunity to address international scientific policy issues.
Selected Young Observers attend meetings of the IUPAC Divisions and Standing Committees to learn more about what the Union does and how they might become involved in its activities. To date, the program has supported over 200 scientists, many of whom have continued to serve on IUPAC activities and contribute at the international level. Participants usually receive a travel fellowship and are encouraged to also present a paper at the IUPAC Congress, which is held in conjunction with the General Assembly.
We are currently seeking outstanding U.S. scientists and engineers under the age of 45, with interests and expertise related to the work of IUPAC. Selected applicants will attend the IUPAC General Assembly and Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, August 8-16, 2013 as Young Observers. The Young Observer Program provides an excellent opportunity to become involved in the work of IUPAC, develop an international network of scientists and engineers, represent your U.S. colleagues in the chemical sciences, and present your research in an international forum. Pending funding, successful applicants may receive a travel fellowship of up to $2,500. The deadline for applications is February 4, 2013.
