ACS Inspires Tomorrow’s Latin American Chemists

In conjunction with the XXIX Latin American Chemistry Congress (CLAQ 2010), ACS hosted a one-day outreach event, on Wednesday, September 29th, for more than 500 middle and high school students from local schools in and around Cartagena,  Colombia.  The students had an opportunity to learn about the role chemistry plays in their lives and took part in five different activities that were led by ACS, including Dr. Martin Chalfie, 2008 Nobel Prize winner, and Dr. Ingrid Montes, from the University  of Puerto Rico, who concluded the event with an hour-long demonstration on “the magic of chemistry.”
