Bartlesville District Science Fair
The Bartlesville District Science Fair has been held locally since 1953, and is currently held in late January / early February. The American Chemical Society participates by providing judges, special awards, and volunteers to help organize the event. The Bartlesville District Science Fair is a regional science fair covering four Oklahoma counties: Washington, Nowata, Osage, and Rogers. About 20 schools are represented each year, including public, private, and home schools. It is affiliated with the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which provides students the opportunity to win many awards sponsored by ISEF, including all-expenses paid trips for two projects and their teachers to the ISEF in May. The top 30-35 projects progress to compete at the Oklahoma State Science and Engineering Fair at East Central University in Ada in March. Recent years have seen the fair grow to an average participation of approximately 350 students; about 150 in the Friday evening Elementary Division, and about 200 in the Saturday morning Junior/Senior Division. Between the board of directors, category judges, special awards judges, registration volunteers, engineering contest, and safety reviewers, well over 100 volunteers come together to make each year’s science fair a success.
