Role of computing in the study of chemical problems?

A video question from Bob Gatwals, North Carolina Local Section.

What do you think?  What is the role of computing in the study of interesting chemical problems?

Re: Role of computing in the study of chemical problems?

Dear Prof. Gatwals,

     This is an amateur physicist.

I have begun internet and seraching ACS Network from September.

I saw and heard your message video which must be editted and submitted to this Network page on July this year.

I would like to ask a question and confirm your opinion.

What do you mean by the word "computational chemistry"?

You mean, for example,  the theory of linear combination of atomic orbitals?

Or do you mean molecular orbital theory?

And what do you mean by the word "study"?

Is it the reasearch done by professionals, or learning done by students?

Or are you going to treat the value of teaching computational chemistry to the young students?

If you are speaking about quantum chemistry and fond of that subject, then please see my discussion page too.
