One episode in ACS’s Global Challenges/Chemistry Solutions (www.acs.org/globalchallenges) project tackled sustainability. The podcast and website put fairly heavy emphasis on Green Chemistry. We’re looking for new content to update that episode in 2009. Does anyone have suggestions on specific scientists, discoveries, or research approaches that we might include?
You might want to speak with current and former members of the GCI Board, e.g., Buzz Cue for Pharma, John Hutchinson for nano, David Long for consumer products, John Warner, broadly. They know what's new. New sources of renewable energy would appeal, I think. New uses of old materials, e.g. turkey feathers into insulation, into fertilizer; sewage into drinking water (St. Petersburg). Is this the sort of thing you wanted?
That's exactly the kind of information that is useful. Thanks very much. We just found a galley for an upcoming journal paper on the use of chicken feathers to make fabric for clothing. That's sustainability research to crow about.
Mike,
I think we can give you a few more leads from ACS GCI as we have discussed. Nature Works and Apple's new AirBook are good examples.
