Sent on behalf of Dr. Alan M. Ehrlich
Vice Chair, ACS Council Policy Committee
Dear ACS Leaders,
Congratulations on your election as Councilor of the American Chemical Society (ACS)! On behalf of the Council Policy Committee (CPC), I invite you to attend the New Councilor Orientation & Reception at the ACS 2014 Spring National Meeting in Dallas, TX on Saturday, March 15 from 4:00–7:00 P.M. at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel.
Election to Council represents an opportunity to participate as an ACS volunteer leader at the national level. The orientation program has been designed by CPC and the Office of the Secretary & General Counsel to increase your familiarity with ACS and to prepare you for your new responsibilities as Councilor. We have invited a number of ACS leaders to share how you can become part of a vibrant network of volunteers and staff. As a part of the orientation, a reception is being planned to enable interactive dialogue and networking with committee chairs and other governance leaders (see attached agenda). Please respond to let us know if you will be attending the orientation and reception by sending an email to Semora Smith (s_smith@acs.org), no later than February 21. If you have any questions or concerns, please send an email message to the secretary@acs.org.
I would like to also introduce our mentorship program for new Councilors. To enable an enjoyable, effective, and efficient experience for all those elected to Council, the CPC has established a mentoring program to bring together new Councilors and those from whom they can learn and be inspired. You will be matched with experienced colleagues who can help you effectively navigate and integrate into ACS governance, and will provide you with resources that will make your role as a Councilor more rewarding.
In preparation for your first national meeting as a Councilor, CPC is hosting a New Councilor Webinar on February 3 from 3:00- 4:00 p.m., ET. I would like to encourage you to participate. You will be given an opportunity to receive some key information about the operations of the Society and ask questions of your peers about service in the ACS Council and preparing for the national meeting. You should expect to receive an invite to participate in the webinar. Please register for the webinar once you receive the invite.
Thank you for your service to the Society, and congratulations again on your election. We are looking forward to seeing you in Dallas!
Best Regards,
Alan
