I was wondering about the history behind one of the methods for synthesis of sodium chlorate. The commercial method for producing sodium chlorate is by electrolysis of sodium chloride which is well documented. There is another universally known and easy method for producing this compound which is by boiling bleach. However, this method has a much lower yield and results in higher contamination in the final product. I would like to know who originally came up with this idea of boiling bleach and where and when this method was first used and documented. Any reference or documentation link would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
