Re: Education versus Athletics

Hi Colleen,

As a college professor, I continue to be amazed at how university administrators stand and deliver their tried-but-definitely-NOT-true rhetoric of academics over athletics. Our athlete-scholars are money makers for the university, and it's like an ex-coach friend of mine once told me, "Nothing generates revenue like ticket sales." Coaches are paid the high salaries because they generate revenue for the university. Unfortunately as educators, our revenue generating power comes after the fact when the university taps into our alumni as a source of revenue. Economic times being what they are, it's safe to say our alumni are pinching pennies, too.

Best,

Tim
